The team "BOINC@Halle/Saale" defines itself as a basis for a local community and
as a worldwide team community of BOINC project participants. The team thought is
in this case a motivation, current scientific investigations know learn. A
competition of the team members within the team around most, for a project or
for all projects produced service is in this case less of immediate importance.
The competition occurs - provided that for the respective team member of
interest - with other project participants and/or with other teams. The team set
the target, to belong permanently to the Germany-wide best 25 and/or 0.5 % of
all BOINC teams as well as to the worldwide best 350 and/or 0.5 % of all BOINC
teams. Up to now 66 BOINC project participants joined the team "BOINC@Halle/Saale" and
participated in an acting way in BOINC projects. The
name of the team is formed from "BOINC" and "Halle/Saale".
"BOINC" (Berkeley
Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) forms the
infrastructure technology and software platform for "Distributed Computing" on
whose basis different scientific projects carry out investigations and
evaluations for the respective science field by means of "Distributed Computing".
In this case the project recipients make available the unused computer power of
the domestic computers for the scientific projects of their choice. The projects
are independent of each other, that is every project has his own servers and
databases. "Distributed Computing" is a technique of the application programming
with which the distribution of an application occurs not only on different
processes but on different computers, and is used in many fields of the
investigation, especially at very computer-bound utilization for whose
processing the performance of traditional supercomputers does not suffice or for
which only insufficient financial averages stand availably. BOINC was an is
developed at the "University of California" in Berkeley, USA.
German-speaking information about BOINC and BOINC projects are put through the team "BOINC@Halle/Saale" under "BOINC projects" as well as as "BOINCcast" (first German-speaking Podcast on the topic "Distributed Computing") availably. Further English information are available on the part of BOINC under http://boinc.berkeley.edu.
"Halle/Saale"
is the biggest city of the Saxony-Anhalt state in Germany. The city lies on the
fringe of the North German lowland. The field was since prehistoric time settled.
Rich salt springs were used for the salt extraction, that here in the younger
Bronze Age and later even intense once in the early Iron Age was practiced.
Beginning with the first dokumentary mention in the year 806 the city developed
to what she is today - a green University-, Culture- and Haendelstadt.
Halle/Saale can look back upon a long history and scientific tradition. In Halle
the oldest scholar society of Germany, the Leopoldina (German academy of the
natural researchers), is resident. Germany's oldest museum of prehistoric
archeology, today also world confessed through the famous "stellar pane", is to
be found in Halle/Saale. The Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg is the
biggest and oldest educational facility in the Saxony-Anhalt state and belongs
to the oldest universities of the German-speaking area. Halle/Saale is shaped
especially by the historical old town and the pasture landscape of the Saale.
Halle/Saale was destroyed to little in the World War II. In this respect almost
the entire city area with his numerous beautiful buildings was maintained. The
city offers therefore an attractive mixture of modern new buildings as well as
restored alto buildings. Further information about Halle/Saale are to be found
under "Halle
information".
One gains a small impression of Halle/Saale as well as of the charm and the
enchanting aura of the city ...
